Life @ Wipro

A glimpse of Wipro's rainbow flower tells you everything about Wipro's corporate identity i. e. Unity in Diversity. True to the Letter! I clearly remember my first brush with this new world when I was given a cool ID card that opened sensor controlled doors!

After the joining formalities we were given details of the training that lasted for around two and a half months. It was conducted in two phases: Fresher's Readiness Program (FRP) for generic skills and Project Readiness Program (PRP) for development of domain skills. FRP was meant to augment everybody with basics of C programming, as we had people from all branches of engineering. The entire batch was split into sub-batches to maintain a proper teacher-student ratio. Everyday we had theory sessions in the morning and hands-on in the afternoon. Post FRP, we were split into domain specific batches for PRP where mine was Unix. In the grueling PRP we were exposed to the nitty-gritty details of the Unix system. The real fun part was the ten-day Real-Life lab towards the completion where experts mentored us in developing mini-projects from scratch covering all phases of SDLC, which they evaluated towards the end. I was simply wonder-stuck at their amazing coding and debugging skills reflecting years of sheer practice.

I was rewarded with Strand Bookstall's gift vouchers with a validity of two years for commendable performance in training. Yes, I have still not been able to exhaust it even after getting books for my friends!!

After training, I was relocated to Pune and got into a project in Embedded systems. Within months, I had the opportunity to look at a number of widely used commercial RTOSs. Besides, I was also involved in talks with some of their creators sitting overseas! Of course, it was through teleconferencing.

In Wipro, we have a dedicated team of experts (comprising the Foundation Competency Group nick-named FCG) that takes care of building competence in all areas be it programming languages or the art of writing programs itself and each one of us has to periodically clear the FCG assessments in his/her area of work as Wipro believes in Leadership through Competency. Besides, Premji himself keeps reminding us of essential qualities for self-development.

Life at Wipro is fun-filled and fulfilling. It is an organization of non-stop celebrations be it monthly birthday parties, project success, periodic get-togethers like People's Week, Spirit of Wipro runs, trekking expeditions, cultural festivals and what not. Wipro has also given me some great friends.

I look forward to a long association with world's largest third party R&D services organization, namely Wipro.

Sanat,
